In other news, In a tragic turn of events, Ruth Hwara, who was eagerly waiting for a crucial kidney transplant, has died.
Influencer and entrepreneur Joey Nyikadzino announced this sad news on her Facebook page.
On Thursday, August 15, Nyikadzino revealed that she found out about Ruth’s passing through a message in the Hwara family WhatsApp group.
She shared her sympathies and warned those who postponed Ruth’s treatment that they might face serious consequences.
“We just saw a message in the Hwara group that Ruth is no more. May her soul rest in peace. Zimbabwe wanted you to live and fulfill your dreams, but it was not to be. Whoever delayed Ruth’s treatment, may God deal with you,” Joey Nyikadzino wrote in her post.
Ruth Hwara passed away just a week after it was reported that Tendai Chibwe, an Ecocash agent in Dzivarasekwa 4, allegedly stole US$13,000 meant for her kidney transplant. Chibwe, 46, was released on bail for US$100 after facing fraud charges in front of Harare magistrate Simon Kandiyero. He is set to appear in court again on September 26.
The issue started when Ruth’s uncle, Nigel Makono, used social media to gather funds for her urgent surgery. Donations were sent to Makono’s EcoCash account, which hit its limit, prompting him to ask Chibwe for help.
Chibwe is accused of misleading Makono by claiming the funds were available but only giving him a small part of the total. Makono reportedly transferred an additional US$13,000 but only received $1,100 from Chibwe, who then became hard to reach when questioned about the rest of the money.
Ruth’s sudden death has left many in sorrow and raised concerns about the delays in her medical care.
