THE UK’s chief medical officers were branded “shameful” by a Covid widower after they backed their disgraced Scots counterpart to “ride out” the storm over her lockdown-busting rule-breaking.

The Scottish Sun revealed on Sunday that Sir Chris Whitty, Sir Jonathan Van Tam and other senior medical officers who advised in favour of draconian lockdown laws urged Dr Catherine Calderwood, 55, not to resign.
